Three Fun Themes for Your Child’s Room

Sail Away Drawer KnobsWe all feel better knowing that there is a special place for us where we belong. Adding a theme to your child’s room can help them identify a special place of their own. Fun themes are important because they make the difference between the place where your kid sleeps and the room that your child lives in. They can tie together a room’s different elements and give the space a unique feel that matches your child’s personality. There are a lot of popular kids room themes that you can use to decorate your child’s room, but it’s easiest to start simple and build from there. These examples may give you some ideas:

BEACH
With ocean blues and sandy browns, beach themes work well for boys’ rooms. Even little touches like the sail away drawer knobs can liven up a boy’s room without putting a dent in your budget. The fun part about the beach theme is that you can either go serious with lighthouses and whaling ships from New England, which goes well with accents like the Charting a Course Mural Banner, or you can get imaginative with a Caribbean flair, picking out decorations like a Treasure Map Rug.

Pink Flower Pot Clock

FLOWERING MEADOW
Whether it’s a quaint English garden or a mountain meadow full of wildflowers, floral items and garden-inspired designs can add a breezy playfulness and sense of whimsy to a little girl’s room. A wide variety of accents and furniture can add a colorful dynamic, from cute Pink Flower Pot Wall Clocks to Strawberry Pink Flower Rugs. The floral theme also lends itself to other popular themes like fairy princesses and ballerinas, a great starting point for games of make-believe.

JUNGLE
Jungle Safari QuiltThe great thing about jungle-themed rooms is that they can work for either boys or girls. Start with a green base, which makes a good, gender-neutral color and then add either pink or blue accents. From there, you can add touches like an Animal Print Rug or some Giraffe Drawer Pulls. The jungle theme also lets you work in favorite animals like giraffes, tigers, or zebras, for the excitement and adventure of a jungle safari. You can even take the safari theme one step further with a Jungle Safari Quilt. It’s a fun way to travel to new continents and see new creatures while still being able to get home in time for dinner.

These themes don’t need much to be customized for your child’s interests or favorite cartoon characters. Is your son a huge fan of SpongeBob SquarePants? He’d be right at home in a beach-themed room. Does your daughter love Dora the Explorer? Then she’ll enjoy having adventures in the jungle. Each of these themes is a good base that you can build on to express your child’s unique personality.

These are just a few starting points. If your child wants to be an astronaut, you can start with an outer space theme, or you can work on a city theme for the child who craves bright lights and excitement. The important thing is to have fun making a space where your child can feel at home. Children’s Holiday Décor

Holidays are a magical time for children of all ages. From youngest to oldest, there is enjoyment in the hustle and bustle, the specchristmas plateial trimmings, the decorations hanukkah platethat only come out once every year, and also all the little odds and ends that usher in those special times of the year. Leave it to Rosenberry Rooms to carry amazing children’s holiday décor that can stoke the anticipation even further!

Start a tasty after school snack tradition with a Hanukkah plate or its Christmas counterpart.

Of course, if you are searching for a beloved piece of children’s holiday décor that is sure to become a treasured bit of the family’s holiday traditions themselves, there is nothing more special than a personalized – hand painted – Christmas photo ornament. Whether you keep a cherished photo of a young child in it or opt for updating the display photo on an annual basis, this ornament is sure to heighten growing kids’ anticipation for the holidays that are just ahead. photo ornament

Children love the kind of holiday décor that is uniquely crafted with them in mind. Run of the mill decorations are fine for the overall look and feel of the home, but there is nothing that compares to seeing a child’s name incorporated in the décor. Plates, pillows and also wall hangings are exceptional means of achieving this feat. Moreover, intricate detail work makes this kind of décor stick out and assert itself, even if it is smaller than some of the mass manufactured pieces.

So, do not be surprised when the child’s eyes light up as the special ornament is taken out of the box or when the holiday plate makes an appearance on the table. There is that feeling of being special, of participating in the holidays more deeply, and – in many ways – actually now being part of the holiday itself. Is it not time you checked out some of the inimitable Rosenberry Rooms children’s holiday décor items? Who knows, you might just be picking out tomorrow’s heirloom today!

How to Shop for Children’s Bedding

Pink TaffyWhen we are born, our perspective is greatly limited by our minimal experience. Seconds move slower. Images are more powerful to consider. Parents know that every experience felt by a young child has a lasting impact on their entire life. There is no insignificant detail in the lives of our children.

While this has obvious ramifications in education, nutrition, and other areas of child development, many underestimate the importance of a comfortable bedroom environment to the healthy and happy rearing of a child. Hours are spent in this room. A bedroom frames the entire life of everyone. It represents shelter and comfort. In consideration of this, every detail in the design of a child’s room should be carefully planned. You want to provide that warmth and safety that a bedroom should offer.

There arHeels Beddinge a number of details that make a successful bedroom design. The one we will consider today is bedding. Shopping for bedding is arguably one of the most important choices. Your child will be curled under them for a good portion of their young life. Bedding is your child’s warmth, comfort, and shield from imaginary monsters in the dark.

It is important to establish a general theme throughout your design. This should be reflected in your bedding choice. While it does not have to be a carbon-copy match of other colors, make sure that the overall design has a consonant and comfortable sense of blending.

Color choice can be neutral or gender-themed. For example, this Pink Taffy Children’s Bedding by New Arrivals is a wonderfully bright creation that has a layer of stylish detail which appeals to the eye of the adult as well. These options make use of color in a way that appeals to children, yet doesn’t require the overt themes that feel disorganized in a room design. The Heels Children’s Bedding Collection by Davenport delights young girls with fun colors and the sophistication and style of modern-era pop art.

Asher BeddingComfortable and coordinated styles for a boy’s bedroom are possible as well. Powder blues and sturdy browns can live in harmony with bright white and bold red in the Asher Bedding Set by Serena & Lily. These compact and crisp compilations of vivid and strong colors will provide a blended theme of excitement and organization. Themed bedding, like the stylish Destinations Bedding by California Kids, will encourage the blossoming explorer in your young boy. Themes like this that consist of a careful selection of colors will conform more easily to a room design. This will present a more organized and stylish look than many of the other bedding themes that are sold as a form of product merchandise for a new cartoon, book, or movie.

Whatever your specific taste, it is important that you select bedding that will give comfort in both feel and look. This is where your child will begin and end the day. It is possible to design the room in a way which is both pleasing to the child and stylish for visitors. Take care in this important decision.

Serena & Lily Patterns – Bohemian and Beautiful

A while back I read a great design tip from the Serena & Lily blog on how to achieve a bohemian patchwork look with your bedding. They suggest you mix and match patterns on the sheeting and shams: plaids, stripes and checks. The juxtaposition of these pieces will add layers of character to the room. I just love that. Actually, the more I think about it, I really love that. Not only is it a great way to play designer when you really are clueless to what you are doing, there is also a certain creative freedom that comes with a bohemian look. You don’t have to choose just bedding that is striped from sham to bolster to fitted sheet. You can choose to bring visual interest by staying in the same color scheme but use patterns that will play off of each other and make your eyes dance. Now doesn’t that sound much more interesting and exciting? Perhaps this is also why I love Serena & Lily so much. This seems to be the rule of thumb they use when creating their bedding sets. Their fabrics are not only unique but the combination of patterns they use in their bedding sets are just irresistible.

Take a look at how their Sadie Bedding Set combines different patterns. The duvet is a melon/white rugby stripe with sprout houndstooth on the reverse and sprout piping. The shams are color block and houndstooth, and the bed sheets are an adorable floral in the same melon and sprout colors. Just think…if someone told you their bedding was rugby stripes, houndstooth and floral, you would probably wince in pain, but look how great it all comes together and how it is anything but boring.

Sadie Bedding

In a similar way, Serena and Lily’s Eve bedding collection is bright and cheery but with a touch of sophistication. They accomplish this by using aqua and melon for their color palette, beautiful embroidery on the duvet, sham, and edging of the bedskirt, and mosaic patterned sheets. When you look at this bedding set, don’t you just want to take it all in, like a breath of fresh air?

Eve Bedding

When they talk about the combination of different patterns in creating a bohemian look, I cant help but mention one of Serena & Lily’s crib sets – the Dylan. A bumper of fascinating animals is set next to a patterned crib sheet, and the crib skirt is plain with a band of color and contrasting trim to tie in the colors of the set. The end result is fresh and calming, giving your little boy the perfect setting for many hours of peaceful sleep.

Dylan Crib Set

Overall, I am obviously a huge fan of Serena & Lily for many reasons, but the one that truly stands out to me is their ability to bring together patterns that you would otherwise keep separate. This eye for design and style is a talent and they not only have it but they have also perfected it. be sure to take your time and check out their complete collection on Rosenberry Rooms! Happy Shopping!

Ways to Decorate With Art for Kids

Fairy Tea PartyOften when parents decide on finishing up their children’s décor, some of the last things to be purchased or put in place is the artwork. I am sure there are many different reasons, but it is most likely because art is such a personal thing, that we don’t want to rush into it and put up just any old thing. This takes time and thought and finding just the right pieces. Now, since we don’t have forever to decide what art is right, let’s look at some easy ways to overcome this art-buying fear that take the mystery out of the process and put fun and excitement into it.

One of my favorite ways to incorporate art in a room is to use a mix of old and new, sentimental and superficial – it brings the best of both worlds together and creates a wonderful ambiance. Old and sentimental would be a picture from a grandparent’s house that has been passed down – maybe even one that they drew themselves. Art like that should always have a place in your home, and if you have to change out the frame or matting, don’t worry that you will “ruin” it – you are simply repurposing it to fit into your child’s décor. Mix that piece with some new art that is fresh and modern and you now have interesting and meaningful décor surrounding your child.

Another way to decorate with art is to choose a series that is anywhere from 3 to 5 different pieces, which can be placed side by side or staggered. The advantage of series art is that you are able to cover a large portion of wall space with little effort. Don’t be worried that it will look All A Twittertoo staged. Although I am not a fan of having everything match, there is nothing wrong with having a series of art on one of the walls in your child’s room. This works well if your child has a specific passion for something like sports, nature themes, animals, etc. This type of art is also wonderful in the nursery for just the opposite reason as well – your baby obviously does not have any specific likes yet, so you can fill a large portion of wall space with simple canvases in themes like ABCs or monochromatic patterns.

I know I always mention this, but another wonderful way to incorporate art into your child’s room is to make it personal. This can mean choosing wooden wall letters that display either their full name, nick name or just their initials. Wall letters are also a fun way to divide up a room that two siblings may be sharing – you can place their initials over their side of the bed, or dedicate a wall to each of them, with their names and art that reflects their personality. Other personalized art may mean simply choosing a canvas where their name can be painted on, making it special and just for them.

Room with a Zoo

Lastly, the one rule to keep in mind is to not follow any rules! Art is full of energy and passion and life, so don’t try to over think the process of bringing it into your child’s room. Be sure to keep it feeling natural by keeping things different. Mix canvases with framed art, old with new, bold with subtle. Bring in art that has meaning and others just because, and the end result will be just wonderful. I hope I gave you another take on how to add art to your child’s room, making the process fun and enjoyable! Happy Decorating!

Meet Katy Mimari of Caden Lane

Ruffle Blanket - Classic Neutral CollectionIf you ever wondered, as a working mom,  if it is possible to “do it all”, just take a look at Katy Mimari, the designer and owner of Caden Lane.   Katy is not only an incredible designer and business woman, but an amazing inspiration to all working moms.  Aside from being a ton of fun, super smart and talented, and always upbeat, she just exudes this creative energy that is infectious!  Always creating, always designing, always expanding her line and ALWAYS daring to reach in different directions with her style, refusing to be stagnant or safe, Katy is a breath of fresh air.  The risks that Katy takes with Caden Lane designs have proven to be very well received, as our customers are always anxiously waiting to see what is next.  Caden Lane is really a pioneer when it comes to baby and children’s bedding, in that there is NO other designer out there that offers anything similar in style or color, and the wide range of designs within the Caden Lane line is undoubtedly far reaching.  Although the various collections within the Caden Lane designer line represent varying moods, styles and tastes, they share a cohesive element that ties them together.

Sophia Crib BeddingThe first bedding line introduced by Caden Lane is appropriately called the Classic Collection, which is available in blue, pink and neutral colors.  This collection appeals to a more traditional audience with warm tones and classic colors, yet features contemporary elements in the fabric patters.  Next, Caden Lane introduced their Modern Vintage Collection,  which provides a modern feel with an ecclectic edge, and offers a variety of patterns in blue for boys and pink for girls.  The most recent collection introduced by Caden Lane is the Luxe Collection, which offers more vibrant and bold colors to the line, for the mom with a daring sense of style.  It is safe to say that the Caden Lane designer bedding line has “something for everyone”, but Katy didn’t stop there!  As Caden Lane grew as a company, so did their line offering, and shortly thereafter, Caden Lane gave birth to their “big kid” bedding collection.  The Caden Lane juvenile bedding line follows in the footsteps of the baby line, carrying through with similar fabrics and colors, perfectly styled and suited for Lola Diaper Bagyour stylish child, from toddler to teen…so chic, so cool!

But wait, there’s more!   Caden Lane also offers a huge line of diaper bags, with styles ranging from backpacks, to hobos, bowlers, totes and messenger bags.   Let’s not forget the enormous line of accessories that are also part of the Caden Lane line.  These include, blankets, bibs, burp cloths, car seat and shopping cart covers, hooded towels and spillmats.  All of these fantastic and utterly essential baby items are available in all of the Caden Lane fabrics, so you can pick and choose, mix and match and have fun!

Ava Crib Bedding

At this point you are probably wondering, as am I, if Katy ever sleeps!  It is no wonder that many celebrities have chosen Caden Lane for their designer nurseries, including Samantha Harris, Tori Spelling and Brooke Burke, to name a few.

Take a look at the Caden Lane Designer Collection on RosenberryRooms.com, to see the latest and greatest that Caden Lane has to offer….I promise, you won’t be disappointed.

Susie Fougerousse

How would you define the Caden Lane style philosophy?

We strive to create stylish & funky baby necessities, and redefine the norm for nursery décor. The baby’s room should be your FAVORITE room in the house (and it’s the only room you can get away with putting rhinestones on the wall)!

What inspired you to become a designer and start a business?

I was a children’s photographer before I started Caden Lane, and I was always amazed in the LACK of fashionable items for the modern moms. They used to carry around these tacky, quilted, diaper bags that were completely dysfunctional and even more unattractive! I knew there had to be better options out there!

Why did you choose to design baby & children’s products?

I couldn’t find any other profession that would let me work with tulle, rhinestones, textiles, and lace all together!

What is your favorite part of your daily work … when you reflect on the day, what is most rewarding?

I love seeing the finished nursery! We have a collection of pictures that our customers have sent us to show off their nursery, and it’s always so amazing to see each Caden Lane Classic Red Duvet Coverindividual’s personality come so alive in the baby’s room. You can see the love and dedication on every part of the room.

Do you have any advice for other working moms?

Drink a lot of wine and get a great nanny! Hahaha, just kidding (but not really).  You know, I think for any working mom, the biggest challenge is finding balance between your work and family life. This is what keeps us sane. The best part for me is that when I am with my children, I give them 110% percent, and when I’m at work – it’s about me. For me, that is balance.

If you had to pick a favorite design from your collection, what would it be?

Well, the Cade Bedding set was designed for my son when I couldn’t find any bedding out there that didn’t have a “theme” to it! Then… when I was pregnant with my daughter, I wanted a more “anthropologie” feel to the room. It was my favorite store at the time, and well… sometimes you find inspiration in the strangest places! So the Ava Bedding was created for her, and her room is still my favorite room in the house! Of course, now I love the Ashlyn Bedding from the Luxe Collection. Just can’t decided if it’s worth a whole new pregnancy! Hahaha….

What sets Caden Lane apart from other children’s bedding & accessories designers?

I think we are all unique in our own way. Even though each of our Caden Lane collections are so different, I still feel like the collection flows. It’s funny – some describe us as a modern children’s company, and others think we are simple and sweet. Honestly, I love being in the middle. You can take the most modern of our cribs (like Tori Spelling did) and put any of our bedding on it, or, you can take a sweet traditional sleigh crib (like Samantha Harris did) and compliment it with any of the collections. I think they call it “transitional”? I like to refer to it as “perfect”. 

Do you have any news that you would like to share, perhaps about upcoming designs or introductions to your line?

Ummmm, yes!!! We only have a HUGE new accessory collection coming out this December! We’ve added new products to the line like tutu bow holders, hair accessories, paci-clips, closet dividers… and my favorite – Big and Little (brother/sister) shirts! It’s funky, eclectic, and totally Caden Lane! The new bedding will be out in 2010!

Art Inspired by Fall

As I drive around these days, I can’t help but be in awe of the changes taking place all around me in Nature. The leaves are just beautiful: fiery reds, bright yellows, and bold oranges – they have turned the landscape into an amazing art show. And to think that we get to view this for free every fall! As I take all of this in, I being to think of how there is a nostalgia that comes with the cooler weather and changing leaves as the days grow shorter and the nights take the lead. We tend to draw inward, to focus more on ourselves and our families. This is the time of holidays and memories, of family and friends. With the fall comes our getting back to the basics…trying to keep warm… coming up with creative indoor family activities…balancing daily life with the upcoming holiday travels and visitors. Yes, there is a distinct dynamic in the fall, and though it is very different than the dynamic and emotion we feel in the Spring, it is just as powerful and wonderful.

What better way to ride out these amazing emotions than to focus on some beautiful fall-inspired art. Now I don’t know if these artists actually created these pieces after a long fall drive, but for me, they reflect the changes and emotion that come with this time of year. Much like nature, art has the ability to immediately inspire, change, and alter our moods in a matter of moments, and that is why art so often imitates and reflects nature. Here are a few pieces of kid’s art that are wonderful visual reminders of how cleansing and calming this time of year can be.

Forest Fun Canvas – The colors and overall feel of this canvas definitely remind me of Fall. The trees are almost completely bare and all the colors are reflective of the ones that we see around us during these next months.

Forest Fun

October Memories Wall Mural – You may not be the “cabin type” but even so, you have to appreciate this amazing image. You can almost feel the crisp air and the sound of crunching leaves in the forest.

October Memories

The Path Canvas – Many may see this canvas as more fitting for Spring, however for me, the cool colors and scarce leaves on the branches speak of Fall and the beginning of wintertime.

The Path

Fall Tree Canvas – This is the most obvious Fall canvas, as is obvious by its name. I especially love the overall simplicity that is blended with great detailing throughout the image.
