Unique Gifts and Toys for Kids

It may only be October, but at the same time it is already October, and many people have begun putting their gift lists together for the holidays. I am not one of those people. I am the person who is scrambling the week before, mailing things out late with a note apologizing again for the delay. Every year I plan on doing things different – taking advantage of sales and Black Friday, but first I would have to have my list done, which is the problem. I thought I would highlight some toys and games for toddlers and kids that stand out among the rest because they are unique, educational, incredibly stylish, or a combination of all these things. All of these products are just wonderful in my opinion and any little girl or boy would be happy to own them.

Big Rigs Semi Truck – This all wood toy is classic is style and structure. What a great toy that any boy will love, plus the added bonus is there are 4 different trucks in this collection, so you can give him a whole crew to play with!

Animal Parade Alphabet Cards – These alphabet cards by eeBoo are wonderful because they bring back the old schoolhouse tradition in a modern way. These 8×10 cards are perfect for teaching your little one the alphabet and the animals that they can associate with each letter. Keep them as they are, or frame them in simple wooden frames to border your child’s bedroom or playroom.

Play Coffee Maker – Every child loves to play pretend and most kids have a kitchen as well. This is the perfect companion for that imaginative space. This is just one of the many wooden toys by KidKraft that are sturdy and fun for kids of all ages.

Children’s Apron – I think this is a unique gift idea for a little girl who loves to play dress up. She can use it to back cookies and cakes in her kitchen, or perhaps while she cleans up the dishes. These are custom made by Pixie Dust Décor and come in their specialty fabrics, custom made for you – just another way they would make a special gift.

Sparrow Lilac Scribble Kit – What a great way to entertain kids at the restaurant, or when waiting in the doctor’s office or for the oil to get changed. This is every parent’s dream – a compact, easy to carry kit with paper and crayons to give them something to focus on when you need them to sit still for a few minutes. Plus, they are by Dwell so you get the fun and hip fabrics from their collection.

URoll Racer – The perfect gift for the child who likes things that go…fast! This will corner like no other and is ideal for tight or limited spaces…so consider this the urban answer for your active little one!

Kids Playing Cards – A great stocking stuffer, this group of playing cards will bring hours of fun for the whole family. Teach your child classic card games with these mini cards, and bring them along to grandma’s house, too!

Natural Wishbone Bike – This is a running bike with a twist…and a very practical one at that. To begin, you can start of in tricycle mode for your one year old, then it will go to a two wheeler, but the best part is the body of the bike then flips over to accommodate for a 4 or 5 year old. Take about a gift that will get it use! A great pre-bike, this will help your child with balance, coordination and overall confidence. A must have in every household.

Back To School Basics

These days everyone is preparing for their kiddies to head back to school. We are preparing our toddler for preschool which starts in just 2 weeks…where did summer go?! Well, now that our focus is lunches, homework assignments, and carpools (among the sports and activities after school) I thought it would be good to highlight some of the fun school basics that Rosenberry Rooms has. You may or may not be needing a new desk, but there are also plenty of other fun basics that will make your child’s first day or return day to school fun and exciting.

Desk and Hutch – giving your child a place that is theirs will make homework and assignment time much more interesting and easier to get done. Now there are so many different styles of desks and hutches that you can go as simple as you like or get one that basically stores and organizes everything but your child! Choose based on your child’s age and how many years of school they have as well as how much space there is in their room. For a toddler who is just starting out, you can simply choose the desk portion and wait on the hutch until they are further along and will need the storage for books and other personal items. Don’t forget that many desks now have the option of a keyboards drawer that slides out, which is convenient and very practical especially as your child grows and will inevitably be using a computer. Lastly, style is obviously a big factor, but there is no need to worry there…traditional, modern, or somewhere in between you will find one you love. Personally I love the over all style of the Treasures Desk and Hutch by Alligator Enterprise – they have awesome color combinations and great features like a file drawer and slide out keyboard tray. Alligator Enterprise is a wonderful children’s furniture line altogether, definitely worth every penny.

Lunch Box – why not bring back the memories from your own childhood and get a cool personalized lunch box for back to school? Let’s face it, they are much more exciting that a brown paper bag, and in the end will save you some change. There are a few styles out there that are really cute, but one of my favorites is the Robot Personalized Lunch Box. Not only is the design great, it is personalized, and has a slew of features like being lead free, waterproof and food safe, plus having a dry erase sheet affixed to the inside of the lunchbox lid – perfect for leaving a note for your child. This designer offers plenty of other styles for both boys and girls…you will be able to match your child’s personality perfectly!

Memo Boards, Cork Boards, Chalkboards – Let’s be honest, the part about back to school that is not so fun is trying to keep everything organized, schedules straight and calendars in sync. So, what better way than for each child to have their own board to have reminders and lists of activities, assignments and other important dates for the week and month? I think it is the best way to keep on top of everything, and there are some really fun options out there to choose from these days. You can opt for something more simple just framed in wood, or if you want to really personalize it, you can go with something a little more “interesting”. I absolutely love the Pink Patent Leather Memo Board – what a great idea to use white patent leather as the background fabric…any girl would love this, it is just fantastic!

Some other things that would be great for back to school are items from eeBoo like their alphabet wall cards, counting cards, memory games, and language flash cards. You can check out all of the eeBoo line here. There is also some great art by Oopsy Daisy such as the mural banners of the world and the USA which are tools for learning as well as pieces of décor. Check out their mural banners here.

Enjoy the chaos of these back to school days and happy shopping!

Bring Nature Inside with Kids Decor

I had a really hard time deciding what to write about which is unusual since typically I have the ability to talk about anything for long periods of time. But this past week I had nothing…I remained completely blank. Then for dinner last night, my DH and I decided to grill and eat on the deck while the girls played in their water table. The weather was perfect…it had been in the 70s and it was still warm and breezy. I started to realize how loud it was. Not annoying-neighbor-kids-loud, but “nature loud” with all the sounds that I have been missing during the winter months: birds, squirrels, bugs, bees, and the wind rustling the budding leaves. Suddenly I realized how all of this seemed to have happened overnight. The trees behind us are no longer just sticks and twigs waiving to us like the makeshift arms of a child’s snowman…they are soft and feathery with the new leaves covering them from top to bottom. The sounds of nature mixed with the feeling of the warm breeze made me happy and gave me inspiration.

There is something incredibly calming about the sights and sounds of nature, so why not bring that into our décor at any chance we have? When we decide to decorate for ourselves or our children, we are careful to choose the colors, pieces and styles that we need but also ones that make us feel relaxed and comfortable. Everything about nature is soothing and relaxing – why do you think so many of us spend the money on machines that reproduce the sounds of nature for us right inside our home? Visually there is no difference. To enhance your child’s nursery, bedroom or playroom, I would suggest bringing in elements that reflect and remind us of nature – the end result will be a more calm and serene environment. It doesn’t matter what your décor may be because a simple light fixture, canvas print, throw pillow or area rug will be just enough to bring nature inside without distracting from your décor.

Some of my favorite pieces are this great Sarah Bird Lamp – I love the simplicity of the all-white color that allows you to focus on the design which gives any room just enough nature-inspired whimsy. Another option for lighting is the hand painted Ava Double Scalloped Chandelier which would be so sweet and delicate in a little girl’s nursery or bedroom. Some great options for kid’s rugs are the Owl Tree Rug and the Blue Dragonfly Rug which offer just enough color and such great visual interest that your kids room will truly stand out. Don’t forget the details like these Garden Critters Drawer Knobs, Small Whimsy Flowers Switch Plate, and Caterpillar Bookends. Each of those pieces gives little sprinkles of nature here and there throughout your child’s room.

Then we come to art – I could spend hours and list pages of art that is amazing and nature-inspired, but I will control myself and just give you a small handful. The Black Butterfly Canvas is eclectic and intense but still simple which is an amazing combination, and the All A Twitter set of 6 is a great image that visually draws you in with the individual canvases. The Fly Society Wallcandy wall stickers allow you to create your very own modern aviary without the mess and this Ladybug Vintage Wooden Sign looks like something that had been passed down for generations. There is bedding, blankets, step stools and even a mobile – so many ways to bring nature inside where it can sooth, calm, inspire both you and your child. The lists could literally go on and on…

Be sure to look through all the nature-themed options that Rosenberry Rooms has to offer you for great kid’s decor and accessories. Remember that it doesn’t take much to change the look and feel of a room, so keep it simple and keep it nature-inspired and you will have created a serene and beautiful space for your child.

The Colors of Spring

If you’re like me this time of year, suddenly there is a little more bounce in your step and you can’t stop thinking … Spring is here!! This is the perfect opportunity to refresh your little one’s space with a couple of cute throw pillows or perhaps the perfect children’s bedding collection for the finishing touch to renew and refresh their style. You don’t always have to completely redecorate to bring new life to your space… and seriously, who has the time?! Bringing in small kid’s decorative items that make you feel revived is just as effective.

Now, onto what I truly love… COLOR. Color is the most ingenious way to directly affect our sub-conscious or ‘inner’ nature….and this Spring make no mistake about it, color is truly reborn. I would classify the decorating style of Spring 2009 as solid but serene. It is a season of romance and fairytales with touches of the exotic sprinkled with butterflies and gems for an overall sophisticated look. In saying this, don’t think that this season is just for the girls. There are countless ways to freshen up a boy’s room by balancing light and airy fabrics… such as soft cotton or sheers with more solid materials, such as denim. Don’t be afraid to add a little fringe for a touch of whimsy and class.

Focusing on color, think diffused, pale and faded, really playing into the romantic essence of the look. Featured colors this season for kid’s room decor and accessories are yellow, blush, blue, lavender, dusty beige and gray neutrals … with a slightly muted attribute. Starting with yellow, focus more on subtle tones….think Canary, Amber Sun, Soft Butter, Tangerine Yellow, Golden Cornbread and Slate Yellow

For a BIG impact go for Serena & Lily’s Isabel Bedding Collection with all the matching accessories, including a Personalized Letter Pillow to add a bit of charm. This set is purely emblematic of what this season has in store for your children’s spaces!

For the perfect combo, pair this with the Ooh La La White Rug from The Rug Market, a Rosenberry Rooms top rug designer, to highlight the romantic element of your space.

Why stop there… for a touch of the exotic try combining with the Tiger Boo Pink Rug, a favorite of mine, featuring soft lines and blush tones, also a choice color for Spring.

Inspiring Idea: For something a little different, break up your child’s space by separating it into two more focused areas… a zone for sleeping and one for playing, reading or wherever their imagination may take them. Then ground each zone with an area rug. This is a fast, cost effective way to rejuvenate your child’s room, bedroom or playroom.

Looking for a modern retro meets masculine look? You have just stumbled upon a gem; like me you will find yourself lovestruck over DwellStudio’s Transportation Bedding Set. Along with so many coordinating accessories for bedroom, bathroom and on the go; you can take this contemporary look with you everywhere!

or for something a bit more subtle go with Serena & Lily’s Cole Bedding Collection!

Which brings me to blue. Beautiful blue. I love this color, not only because it is so versatile and gender friendly but also because of its exhilarating quality. This season go for denim or a lighter, sky infused blue or blue lavender.
Think stormy sky, palace blue, pacific blue, Prussian Blue
For boys, I adore the Choo Choo Chandelier in Satin Nickel. The polished look and creative concept makes this children’s ceiling fixture irreplaceable!

One of Rosenberry Rooms sweetest lighting accessories is the Blue Starburst Chandelier Shade embellished with exquisite embroidery and finished with a delicate beaded trim…. perfectly set atop a pair of Rosenberry Rooms White Double Lily Sconces handcrafted by Maura Daniel Studio in Los Angeles. The elegant petals and touches of pearl bring a flawless and timeless look, making this the perfect blue duo for this Spring!

Bring in dusty neutrals and beiges but, think outside the space. No pun intended!
Picture your little one rollin’ down the sidewalk in the Vintage Green or Vintage Pink Pedal Estate Wagon…. LOVE IT! Take your child out for a spin in a pedal car; it’s the perfect opportunity to take a cool spring walk with the family.

Not only are these pedal cars classy, they are very vintage, very retro….. American Retro that is; they are the masterminds behind these little inventions. With a variety of shapes and colors who wouldn’t adore them!
If you have a little flyer my top pick is American Retro’s Limited Edition All Chrome Pedal Airplane. Inspired by the 1941 Steelcraft U.S. Army Patrol Plane it is practically irresistible!

With almost 40 Pedal Cars & Tricycles to choose from you’re sure to find something to suit your little one!
