Serena & Lily Patterns – Bohemian and BeautifulNovember 6, 2009 on 8:56 am | In Decorating Tips | No CommentsA while back I read a great design tip from the Serena & Lily blog on how to achieve a bohemian patchwork look with your bedding. They suggest you mix and match patterns on the sheeting and shams: plaids, stripes and checks. The juxtaposition of these pieces will add layers of character to the room. I just love that. Actually, the more I think about it, I really love that. Not only is it a great way to play designer when you really are clueless to what you are doing, there is also a certain creative freedom that comes with a bohemian look. You don’t have to choose just bedding that is striped from sham to bolster to fitted sheet. You can choose to bring visual interest by staying in the same color scheme but use patterns that will play off of each other and make your eyes dance. Now doesn’t that sound much more interesting and exciting? Perhaps this is also why I love Serena & Lily so much. This seems to be the rule of thumb they use when creating their bedding sets. Their fabrics are not only unique but the combination of patterns they use in their bedding sets are just irresistible. Take a look at how their Sadie Bedding Set combines different patterns. The duvet is a melon/white rugby stripe with sprout houndstooth on the reverse and sprout piping. The shams are color block and houndstooth, and the bed sheets are an adorable floral in the same melon and sprout colors. Just think…if someone told you their bedding was rugby stripes, houndstooth and floral, you would probably wince in pain, but look how great it all comes together and how it is anything but boring. In a similar way, Serena and Lily’s Eve bedding collection is bright and cheery but with a touch of sophistication. They accomplish this by using aqua and melon for their color palette, beautiful embroidery on the duvet, sham, and edging of the bedskirt, and mosaic patterned sheets. When you look at this bedding set, don’t you just want to take it all in, like a breath of fresh air? When they talk about the combination of different patterns in creating a bohemian look, I cant help but mention one of Serena & Lily’s crib sets – the Dylan. A bumper of fascinating animals is set next to a patterned crib sheet, and the crib skirt is plain with a band of color and contrasting trim to tie in the colors of the set. The end result is fresh and calming, giving your little boy the perfect setting for many hours of peaceful sleep. Overall, I am obviously a huge fan of Serena & Lily for many reasons, but the one that truly stands out to me is their ability to bring together patterns that you would otherwise keep separate. This eye for design and style is a talent and they not only have it but they have also perfected it. be sure to take your time and check out their complete collection on Rosenberry Rooms! Happy Shopping! Ways to Decorate With Art for KidsNovember 1, 2009 on 3:59 pm | In Decorating Tips | 1 Comment
One of my favorite ways to incorporate art in a room is to use a mix of old and new, sentimental and superficial – it brings the best of both worlds together and creates a wonderful ambiance. Old and sentimental would be a picture from a grandparent’s house that has been passed down – maybe even one that they drew themselves. Art like that should always have a place in your home, and if you have to change out the frame or matting, don’t worry that you will “ruin” it – you are simply repurposing it to fit into your child’s décor. Mix that piece with some new art that is fresh and modern and you now have interesting and meaningful décor surrounding your child. Another way to decorate with art is to choose a series that is anywhere from 3 to 5 different pieces, which can be placed side by side or staggered. The advantage of series art is that you are able to cover a large portion of wall space with little effort. Don’t be worried that it will look I know I always mention this, but another wonderful way to incorporate art into your child’s room is to make it personal. This can mean choosing wooden wall letters that display either their full name, nick name or just their initials. Wall letters are also a fun way to divide up a room that two siblings may be sharing – you can place their initials over their side of the bed, or dedicate a wall to each of them, with their names and art that reflects their personality. Other personalized art may mean simply choosing a canvas where their name can be painted on, making it special and just for them. Lastly, the one rule to keep in mind is to not follow any rules! Art is full of energy and passion and life, so don’t try to over think the process of bringing it into your child’s room. Be sure to keep it feeling natural by keeping things different. Mix canvases with framed art, old with new, bold with subtle. Bring in art that has meaning and others just because, and the end result will be just wonderful. I hope I gave you another take on how to add art to your child’s room, making the process fun and enjoyable! Happy Decorating! Adriana M Dehring Art Inspired by FallOctober 28, 2009 on 1:28 pm | In Decorating Themes for Kids, Decorating Tips | No CommentsAs I drive around these days, I can’t help but be in awe of the changes taking place all around me in Nature. The leaves are just beautiful: fiery reds, bright yellows, and bold oranges – they have turned the landscape into an amazing art show. And to think that we get to view this for free every fall! As I take all of this in, I being to think of how there is a nostalgia that comes with the cooler weather and changing leaves as the days grow shorter and the nights take the lead. We tend to draw inward, to focus more on ourselves and our families. This is the time of holidays and memories, of family and friends. With the fall comes our getting back to the basics…trying to keep warm… coming up with creative indoor family activities…balancing daily life with the upcoming holiday travels and visitors. Yes, there is a distinct dynamic in the fall, and though it is very different than the dynamic and emotion we feel in the Spring, it is just as powerful and wonderful. What better way to ride out these amazing emotions than to focus on some beautiful fall-inspired art. Now I don’t know if these artists actually created these pieces after a long fall drive, but for me, they reflect the changes and emotion that come with this time of year. Much like nature, art has the ability to immediately inspire, change, and alter our moods in a matter of moments, and that is why art so often imitates and reflects nature. Here are a few pieces of kid’s art that are wonderful visual reminders of how cleansing and calming this time of year can be. Forest Fun Canvas – The colors and overall feel of this canvas definitely remind me of Fall. The trees are almost completely bare and all the colors are reflective of the ones that we see around us during these next months. October Memories Wall Mural – You may not be the “cabin type” but even so, you have to appreciate this amazing image. You can almost feel the crisp air and the sound of crunching leaves in the forest. The Path Canvas – Many may see this canvas as more fitting for Spring, however for me, the cool colors and scarce leaves on the branches speak of Fall and the beginning of wintertime. Fall Tree Canvas – This is the most obvious Fall canvas, as is obvious by its name. I especially love the overall simplicity that is blended with great detailing throughout the image. Happy Decorating! Adriana M Dehring Great Book Holders for KidsOctober 20, 2009 on 1:18 pm | In Decorating Tips | No CommentsWith the holidays fast approaching, I have started to pay closer attention on a day to day basis for things that my girls could use to better keep their things easily accessible. Tonight, while we had reading time with them, I took a long, hard look at their books that were piled haphazardly and disorganized on an old bookshelf of mine with two or three falling onto the floor every time they would grab one for us to read. Yes, I started to obsess over the fact that the books never stay standing up nice and proper, from largest to smallest, grouped with like kinds…okay, I am probably the only one that notices, but still…I immediately started to think how our girls will soon have more books to add to their collection, and how I have to somehow resolve the issue of falling books. Then my mind quickly flashed to the fun options that there are out there that not only keep books better organized, but make it easier for kids to reach and put them away. It is not always easy to find the right combination of style and practicality, especially when it comes to children’s décor, but when you can find a place that offers you great options, then it becomes much less of a hassle and much more fun. Stores like Rosenberry Rooms carry such a wide range of designers that you will find things that you may not have otherwise known existed, such as some of the most amazing book holders. I am actually having a hard time narrowing it down! There are ones that would be just perfect for the playroom, and those that work if you have limited space, plus all the other styles in between. Here are some of the amazing options you have to better organize and keep all the amazing books that your child has collected over the years. I am sure you will be just as impressed with these styles and creations…plus what a great holiday gift these would make for the child that loves to read and has an ever-growing collection of books! Wall Bookholder – A wonderful alternative for those who don’t have the floor space, this vintage styled bookholder allows you to clearly see the books while keeping them safe. There are three different sized rows that allow you to properly house the many stories and books your child has.
Book Trolley – This is sectioned much like the towers you find at the library, so that you can keep big and little books organized, plus the wheels make it easy to relocate it from one side of the room to the other and the built in easel creates the perfect book prop for easy reading.
Book Bound – Modern through and through, these are perfect for those who want to add something different to their child’s decor. They will add color and a lot of interest to your child’s room in a fun and artistic way, as your little one’s books actually become a part of the room decor!
Bonsai Book Caddy – This incredibly fun and unique book caddy allows children to easily slide books right into place, with the spine facing outward, so there is never a doubt as to which book they are grabbing for mom and dad to read. Added bonus – it is an eco-friendly product!
Blue Stripe Wooden Bookholder – A little bit more traditional in style, this wooden bookholder has a wonderful vintage feel. It is divided in the middle, and can sit on the floor right next to the bed, making it easy for little hands to store and grab books.
Be sure to check out other book holders and bookcases on Rosenberry Rooms that may suit your needs, and remember that the sooner you start your holiday shopping, the less stressful they will be! Happy Shopping! Adriana M Dehring Custom Wood Furniture: RelicsOctober 10, 2009 on 9:52 am | In Children's Furniture, Decorating Tips | No CommentsIn the world of quick and easy which we live in, many of us can get discouraged and disheartened with the overall lack of quality we find in the things we buy. I think this is true especially of large purchases like furniture. Let’s be honest, furniture is not cheap, even if you get a lower end brand, you are still going to be dropping a significant amount of money. The sad part is that it will probably fall apart in a couple of years (if you are lucky). So, we continue to take our money and metaphorically burn it left and right, but we have no other choice, right? I mean, our kids need a bed to sleep in, desk to study at, night stand to keep their things on. Don’t they? Of course they do, but that doesn’t mean we have to sacrifice quality or break our bank accounts, either. We just need to know what to look for and where to find it. First of all, know that mass-manufactured furniture is the most common. Chances are, almost every piece of furniture you own or have looked at would fall into this category. Now, there is nothing wrong with buying this type of furniture, however you must realize this will not hold up like the furniture of old…the kind that is probably in your parents or grandparents home…the type of furniture that was made piece by piece and put together one at a time with custom fabrics, at the corner furniture shop that everyone in your neighborhood knew and trusted. Those pieces were made with pride and passion, and there was a certain level of quality that was unspoken but understood. Then we turned into a fast and cheap kind of people. What can we get tomorrow, or better yet, today? It is not common for our generation to be willing to wait a few weeks, let alone months for a piece of furniture. That is ridiculous at best. But the truth is, that these fast and cheap furniture pieces are often made and shipped from another country, where it is just one of thousands, with no personal attention or care given to any part of the building process. Because of this, I have a special love for a great custom wood furniture company named Relics. Each piece of their furniture is bench made, meaning very simply, that it goes back to how quality furniture was made many years ago. Think of a wood pile slowly being carved, finished, painted and fitted together to create a bed, bookshelf or night stand. That is Relics. They can customize the size of any of their pieces, because they are making them literally from scratch. They have plenty of colors for you to choose from, and will even do any Benjamin Moore paint color for a small price. Talk about custom made furniture, I don’t think it gets any better than that. I think that Relics truly is a company dedicated to creating quality furniture that you love. The owner is involved in the entire process and oversees everything first-hand to be sure that it meets his own personal standards. Each piece of furniture goes through a multiple point check process to make sure nothing has been overlooked. Quality with great style is something worth spending your money on, especially with children’s furniture. You know a solid wood piece of furniture will last the wear and tear you and your kids will put it through. Now, let’s look at a few of their furniture pieces (my favorites, of course!) so that you can decide for yourself how great each piece is! Lily Rae Bed – The appeal fo this bed for me is that it is simple but feminine, giving parents incredible versatility. If you have a girl who loves frills and ornate things, or one that likes modern, sleek lines – this bed (and bedroom set) will work for every design style.
Beadboard Bookcase – This is one of their most common pieces because it has a universal appeal and fits in with other styles of furniture. Beadboard is classic and looks great especially in a little boy’s room.
Spindle Armoire – Just look at the detailing in this piece…fantastic! I love how they have taken a basic piece of furniture and added so much visual appeal with the spindle detailing and the cut out door.
Wonderland Bed – Every time I see this bed, I feel like I have just jumped into a storybook, which is what makes this such a fun piece for a little girl or boys room. This bed has amazing charm and appeal…cant you just imagine how fun this piece would be for your child?
Be sure to check out the entire Relics line here, and remember, each of these pieces is completely customizable making them the perfect fit for your home! Happy Shopping! Adriana M Dehring Beautiful Kids Frames by AB DesignsOctober 7, 2009 on 10:45 pm | In Decorating Tips | No Comments Rosenberry Rooms just started carrying a line of picture frames that is so adorable, I just had to write about them. Now, I typically have a love-hate relationship with frames. I love different types of frames – wood, metal, vintage, modern…but I hate that I am not usually impressed with most of the ones I come across. AB Designs is different. Their frames are just gorgeous. Each of their kid’s frames is simple, elegant, and made well down to the last detail, which is a winning combination in my opinion. I love the palate they use for both boys and girls – soft mint greens, lavender, pale pink and blue, chocolate brown, and white will match any decor and fit right into the nursery or bedroom. These frames are made with solid wood which is hand finished, either 2” or 3” thick. The finishing touches include dupioni silk ribbon and rhinestone detailing which makes these frames one of a kind. AB Designs put plenty of time and thought into creating frames that are truly amazing, and it is obvious once you see them. Blue Covered Button Frame – This frame is so elegant and simple. I love the covered button, and the combination of blue and ivory is soothing – just perfect for a little boy’s nursery.
Pink Chloe Frame – The turquoise ribbon adds just the right pop of color, making this frame stand out. Paired with the elegant rhinestone broach, this frame has a timeless style.
Brown Luna Frame -The classic combination of brown and blue really stand out on this frame. The sparkle of the accent broach keep this from being anything but mundane.

Adriana M. Dehring Kids Luxury LinensSeptember 28, 2009 on 1:07 am | In Decorating Tips | 1 CommentJust because they are pint-sized (for now, anyway!) doesn’t mean that your little boy or girl will not appreciate fine linens on their bed. They may not know what thread count is, or how there are different types of cotton, but when their head hits the pillow and they pull their sheets high up to their chin, they will feel as if they are falling asleep on a cloud. Luxury bedding sets are a step above, and they come with definite benefits for young and old alike. The fabrics are breathable, so they won’t be too hot or too cold, the sheets will be soft on their skin, almost soothing, the quality is superior, with amazing details and durability that guarantees many years without edges fraying, stitches ripping or seams pulling apart. Typically, we don’t think of purchasing expensive bedding for our children, because they will probably ruin it. Right? Well, that just depends…if you allow your child to eat in their room, play with markers in their room, etc, then maybe you don’t want to invest in fine linens for them. However, if your child’s bedroom is just for non-messy activities, then a gorgeous bedding set will fit right in. Luxurious linens look amazing and have the ability to completely transform the bedroom into a magical place. Most bedding sets that fall into the “luxury” category will not be overly themed, which will allow you to keep them in your child’s room for many years. You can always add their favorite passion of the moment into the room through art and other décor, so there is no need to worry that their space will not be personal enough. Some luxury bedding sets that you can find on Rosenberry Rooms include designers like Doodlefish, Gordonsbury, and Little Bunny Blue. All of these designers are known for using superior fabrics and incorporating amazing details into their bedding sets. Here are three luxury linen sets that I think are fabulous… Doodlefish: Princess Bedding – Everything about this set is fantastic, from the embroidery on the fabrics, to the soft hues, to the amazingly feminine and youthful feel. This is the type of bedding that transforms a little girl’s room into a wonderful haven for her to relax and sleep.
Little Bunny Blue: Stephanie Ann Bed Linens – the combinations of fabrics and the detailing throughout this set are just amazing. This is a wonderful shabby chic set that makes for a very feminine bedroom.
Gordonsbury: Sailing Away – This is a wonderful set for a little boy. It is so fresh and clean, with all of the appeal in the embroidery detailing throughout this set. The overall simplicity also allows you to personalize his room with plenty of color and exciting décor.
These are only a few of the luxury bedding sets that you can find on Rosenberry Rooms. Be sure to check out the entire luxury section which offers you options for art, décor and so much more. Happy Decorating! Adriana M Dehring A Black and White RoomSeptember 17, 2009 on 10:21 am | In Decorating Themes for Kids, Decorating Tips | No CommentsSometimes keeping it simple and I mean really simple has the most dramatic effect. A great example of this would be in a black and white themed nursery. The combination of black and white makes us think of formal things – weddings, cocktail parties, the opera – any event that would make your husband shine his shoes before going! Some may think this is too heavy looking, or stuffy for a nursery, but I beg to differ. It is elegant, charming, and sophisticated, making it the perfect combination for your baby’s first room. Lizzie Crib Linens by Little Bunny Blue – I just love this set because it is so crisp and has such great details, like the pleating on the crib skirt and the black buttons and trim. This is sophisticated but still youthful with the choice of tiny white and black dot fabric throughout. Notice also how they have a pale pink on the walls…it does not take away from the bedding and furniture at all.
Aladin Lamp by Maura Daniel – This lamp is a great modern piece that really catches your eye. Their use of different shapes and patterns throughout, really come together in an energizing way. Central Park Wall Letters – Toile can mix and match with so many other styles of décor and looks especially wonderful in a nursery. These wall letters can also make the transition from nursery to the big kid room even if you change from a black and white theme, making them a great choice for personalized wall décor. Classic Rock Adult Glider by Jennifer DeLonge – Every parent should have a comfy glider in the nursery for the many hours of holding, feeding, soothing, and reading to baby. For the modern parent, this Classic Rock Glider is perfect. The two-tone look makes it interesting and the black and white combination it is so hip. This is another piece that can move out of the nursery when you transition to the big kid room, except it can actually go to any other room in your house! Choosing to decorate in a black and white theme for the nursery will result in a sophisticated and stunning place to welcome baby home. Be sure to check out the other black and white pieces Rosenberry Rooms has so that you can get inspired to create a dream nursery for your little one! Happy Decorating! Adriana M Dehring Wall Art for Any StyleSeptember 9, 2009 on 9:14 am | In Decorating Themes for Kids, Decorating Tips | No CommentsWhen you decide to fill your child’s room with art to personalize and liven up their space, most of the pieces you choose will be reflective of their personality. However, there are some pieces of artwork out there that are able to blend nicely with any color scheme, theme or personality type. The reason they have this universal appeal, if you will, is because of the colors and message being used in the artwork. These pieces are great options when you just need a little something extra but aren’t quite sure which way to go, or if you are just starting out and not completely sure what color or theme the room will become. For both boys and girls, it is important to have some of these universal pieces of art in their rooms to balance out the rest of the décor, keeping it from becoming overly thematic. One example would be an ABC piece of artwork, which is great for the nursery or your grade school aged child. This type of artwork can serve as a learning tool, especially when interesting objects and illustrations are shown for each letter. I personally love the Classic Alphabet Girl Canvas by Oopsy Daisy, which features popular pastel colors that are muted enough to blend well with other pieces of décor and perfect for any girl’s room.
Another example of a universal type of artwork for boys would be a simple sports themed piece. Almost every boy loves sports at one time or another, but even if he prefers reading or building things, a simple piece of sports wall art will still fit in his room. There is a series of pieces by Green Frog Art including the Baseball one pictured below that are just great. Simple, neutral in color, and incredibly stylish, this framed art would blend well in any boy’s room.
I am a big fan of wooden wall plaques and think every child’s room should showcase one. They offer such a wonderful vintage feel and are able to blend in with any décor. There are so many different signs to choose from, but one that stands out to me as perfect for a boy’s room is the Three Old Goats Wood Sign, which you can personalize to say whatever you like. I also like how it is really theme neutral, but interesting and a great conversation piece.
Lastly, I would say that an abstract piece of art would work well with multiple themes and color schemes. Not every piece of art in your child’s room has to be theme-specific, and it is often a good idea to use at least one eye-catching piece for the sake of visual appeal. This Blue Flames Canvas is a great piece for a boy’s room – it is very masculine but also a fun piece to offset the rest of his décor.
Keep your eye out for these types of wall art to start or complete your child’s room. Happy Decorating! Adriana M Dehring Hanging Wooden Letters for KidsSeptember 8, 2009 on 10:04 am | In Decorating Themes for Kids, Decorating Tips | No CommentsWhen it comes to naming our baby, it is not a simple process or one that parents take lightly. Typically it is the subject of the moment for almost the entire 9 months. Mom and dad are constantly harassed to reveal the name or at least to give some insight into what direction they are leaning – is it trendy? how about a family name? you know…great, uncle Rufus would be so honored… All the while mom and dad make and re-make and arrange and rearrange their list over and over trying to decide from their ultrasound photos which name suits their baby. They may not be sure if that is the nose or a thumb, but they definitely know that name is NOT the right one. My point is that naming your child is something that we, as parents, have invested plenty of time, energy, thought and emotion into. What better way to celebrate their wonderful name than by proudly displaying it in the form of wooden hanging letters? There are many different options when you decide to purchase hanging wall letters – you can just have your child’s initials done, the full name, just the first name, all caps, all lowercase, whatever font you like… Some of the most popular letters that are sold on Rosenberry Rooms are from one designer that has adorable patterns, amazing quality and a great custom option where you get to choose all the details of color and pattern. Here are some of the top sellers for boys and girls from this designer. The Kayla’s Butterfly Garden Letters are just so sweet and feminine, making them perfect for a nursery or little girl’s bedroom. I would choose for these to be made with the coordinating ribbon and also order the matching nail covers – that will really complete the look.
The Blues and Greens Letters are fresh and fun and will match a variety of boy’s room themes. The combination of colors and classic patterns make these letters perfect for a little boy’s nursery or a big kid’s bedroom.
The Green Paisley Splash are bright and energetic and perfect for the girl who likes things other than hearts and flowers. The colors are modern and the patterns are classic, making these wall letters stand out in any décor.
The Red and Chocolate Wall Letters are just superb. I love how the colors are strong and refined but still youthful. These letters are a great addition to your little boy’s decor and will add to the overall feel of the room.
Celebrate your child’s name with these great hanging letters offered on Rosenberry Rooms and remember, they make wonderful Christmas presents! Happy Decorating! Adriana M Dehring |
