myHaven Daybed by Young America by Stanley

My chosen special feature this week is this beautiful daybed by Young America by Stanley. I am looking forward to a long beach vacation with my family and this daybed would be the perfect addition to our beach house. Available in a wide variety of luxurious colors from pastels to brilliant hues, this daybed would be wonderful in either a girls bedroom or a boys bedroom.

Another thing I love about this bedroom set is that is solid and stylish for use for many years as my children grow. Choosing childrens’ bedroom furniture is a careful decision, an investment in your child’s environment and setting the stage for sweet dreams and lots of cuddling. The myHave Daybed is not too childish, nor too adult in its sturdy construction. I am a big fan of the daybed style as my children feel snuggled into their bed inside the high backings. Children will also love the color selection and find one perfect for their developing bedroom design tastes.

A fun feature available with this bedroom set in the underbed trundle – perfect for sleepovers! Also available with a storage unit that provides kids the opportunity to help out and clean up their own bedroom by offering a fun place to store all their toys.

This item also has FREE shipping at RosenberryRooms.com with White Glove Delivery Service!

If you are looking for a childrens’ bedroom set that will last the years with ornate design and beautiful construction, the myHaven Daybed may just be the perfect bedroom set for your child.

Different Kinds of Kids Art

June 23, 2009 on 3:48 pm | In Decorating Themes for Kids, Decorating Tips | 1 Comment

cherry-blossom-birdies-canvas-reproduction1When you are ready to really personalize your child’s room with great wall art, you may be surprised at just how many options you have. It can definitely be overwhelming especially if you aren’t aware of various types of art that are available to you. To help take the stress out of the most exciting part of decorating (the wall art) I am going to highlight the many types of kid’s art available to you and point out a few of their features. Hopefully with this information you will be able to decide what you and your child’s needs are, and what type(s) of kid’s wall art would fit the space the best.

Canvas Reproductions – these are original works of art that are printed on a canvas which is then stretched around a wooden frame and ready to hang. Since these don’t need to be framed, there is no need to use a glass covering and they can be wiped clean with a damp cloth, making them a great choice for kid’s rooms and playrooms.

Hand Painted Art
– obviously, these are actually hand-painted, giving them uniqueness not found in other types of art. Even if you purchased two of the same, they would be a little different, and for many that is the appeal, knowing it is a one-of-a kind. You will find these both framed, and as stretched canvases or even as wall plaques. There is something incredibly special knowing that the artist created that very piece just for you. Typically you will also have options to customize by altering colors or some other details in the picture, which is another added bonus.

time-to-be-treasured-wood-signWall Hangings – if you need to cover a large amount of wall space, or have unusually high ceilings, wall hangings are a good choice. There are a variety of styles for wall hangings, some of them hang by ribbon or wooden dowels, others by decorative nails, others from the ceiling, but all of them will lay flat against your wall and tend to be larger in size than other artwork.

Framed Art
– this is pretty self-explanatory, but there are some things to note: first, if the art is a reproduction, it will probably come without a glass or plexiglass but if it is hand-painted it will typically have a covering to protect it; second, framed art is usually smaller than other types of artwork, making it great for filling in small or awkward spaces; Third, the frame is almost like another piece of art in itself, adding color, style and interest to the room.

Wall Stickers
– these are definitely for those of us that are indecisive, easily bored or commitment phobes! These are removable and can be rearranged over and over again, giving you so many options and ways to create the artwork on the wall. There are also ones that are mini chalkboards and frames…what a fun way to fill up some space!

Wall Plaques
– usually made of wood, these typically have a very vintage feel to them, which I think has a place in any room regardless of the theme or style. You can use these on your child’s wall or resting on a shelf, making them very versatile.

Hanging Wall Letters
– these have become very popular over the past few years, probably because they are so personal – you can choose from so many fonts, colors, and patterns, or custom design your own. What better way to truly personalize your child’s room than with milk-chococlate-wooden-hanging-wall-lettersspecially made letters showcasing their name or initials? Many can hang with a nail, others with added ribbon, plus many designers offer coordinating nail covers so that you can have a very polished look.

Growth Charts
– although this doesn’t typically seem like it would be a piece of wall art, with the options that are available now, there is no doubt. They are, in fact, little pieces of art that also serve the practical purpose of charting your little one’s growth, which in turn becomes something that can be saved and enjoyed for many years.

Now that you have an idea of the different styles and types of kid’s art available to you, it should be much easier to know how you want to fill their space. Don’t feel like you have to stay within just one style…on the contrary, by mixing and bringing these different types of wall art together, you will be able to create an inspiring and fun room for your child.

Best-Selling Boys Bedding – Organic Dinosaur Crib Bedding

Having and 8 year old and a 10 year old I have started to miss the baby phase. Luckily, several of my friends have recently had babies or are expecting. This gives me an excuse to peruse the wonderful selections of crib bedding that is now available. I haven’t had to think about or buy baby things in quite awhile and I am amazed at the colors, fabrics and designs that I have to choose from. In particular, boys crib bedding has come along way. I remember only a few choices when my son was an infant and now there are thousands of amazing boys crib bedding patterns that make it a hard, but wonderful decision! I remember placing my infant son into his crib at night and just standing over him, watching him sleep. The imprint of his light blue sheets and train design crib border is forever engrained in my memory. Every time I think of him snuggled into his crib amongst the soft blue bedding, I can smell that wonderful baby smell again. I want to give my girlfriend that same kind of joy when she looks over her sleeping baby. I want her memory to permanently imprint with that beautiful sight.

I have been scouring the best-selling boys crib bedding selections and found this adorable crib set that is the perfect setting for these memories – Organic Crib Bedding Set – Dinosaur by Argington.

This best-selling boys crib bedding has soft blue dinosaur print with a reversible comforter printed with dinosaur tracks. Some of the dinosaur designs are nose to nose as if playing. When I look at this luxurious crib bedding set, a sense of warmth and comfort comes over me. Other great features are that this set is 100% certified organic cotton sateen, 220 thread count, which means that no herbicides or pesticides have been used in production. The prints are done with low impact dyes using a low impact printing process. Comforters, bumpers, and pillows have 100% cotton fill. The fabric texture is smooth to the skin and remarkably soft. And above all….it is all natural. Organic crib bedding set includes:

1 reversible comforter (36″ x 50″)
1 reversible bumper
1 fitted sheet
1 crib skirt

And, of course, I love the FREE SHIPPING on this items offered by Rosenberry Rooms.

I hope that my girlfriend will experience the love and beauty nestled into this organic crib dinosaur bedding that I have forever in my memories.

More About Color for Your Child’s Room

June 17, 2009 on 2:16 pm | In Decorating Tips | No Comments

My last post was about utilizing color and how to achieve the right color ratio in your child’s room. Then I pointed out some of the more popular color schemes for kids which included pink & green, orange & blue, and red, white & blue. It was so fun to highlight décor that showed off these different colors, that I decided to add a few more combinations and basically expand further on this topic. If you want to read the color basics before looking at these specific schemes (I would suggest it), then click here. Okay, now that you have caught up, I am going to highlight a few other combinations for your children’s rooms that I think are fun and easy to pull together.

Brown & Pink – a classic combination for girls with so many options that you can go shabby chic, modern, or somewhere in between. Check out these CoCo Hand Painted Wall Letters and the great patterns that are used:

I love the blend of a traditional base with a more modern shade on the Clayton Brown Lamp by Charn & Co

Brown & Blue – so versatile and a great combination for any age, just look at this Oxygen Blue Brown Ivory Rug…clean and simple, plus the touch of ivory gives it interest:

oxygen-blue-brown-rug

This Nikko Double Drum Chandelier is just great…I like the use of khaki trim instead of brown – it is a little bit lighter and actually makes this piece coordinate with many different styles.

Yellow & Pink – although not the most obvious combination to use, just look at how fresh and fun this Isabel Bedding Set is:

This Gerber Rug is absolutely adorable and the perfect accent piece for your little girl’s nursery or bedroom:

gerber-rug

Orange & Green – There is something so energizing about this color combo, and I love the tones in this Links Rug:

This Colors of Spring Lamp is the perfect accent lamp solving both your need for some extra light and a great looking piece of décor:

All of these color combos say something different, bring a different energy and fit different styles. I highlighted pieces that showed both colors together on one piece, but be sure to look at solid pieces in each color and always include a neutral and a bit of black. Here are more color theme options from Rosenberry Rooms.

Happy decorating!

Special Feature of the Week – Isabella Vanity And Computer Desk by Young America by Stanley

June 11, 2009 on 11:22 pm | In Children's Furniture, Special Feature of the Week | No Comments

Isabella Vanity And Computer Desk by Young America by Stanley

My little girl turned eight years old this week and all she wanted was a new desk for her room. It appears that eight is the magical age where little girls in pigtails suddenly decide they are too ‘old’ for many things. Much too big and much too wise for the little girl desk currently in her bedroom, she talked about nothing else for the last month.

We searched and searched for the best ‘big girl’ desk for her and finally came across this great find – the Isabella Vanity And Computer Desk by Young America by Stanley.

When she came into her room on her birthday after school she went ga-ga! For the first time ever, she was excited to do her homework! She loved everything about the Isabella Desk including the large desktop space, the elegant design work and elaborate detail woodwork. I love the unique pieces in a decorative white distressed finish with fluted round posts, turned bun feet and soft curves throughout. The pale decorative striping and light dusting add depth and interest to the finish, while accents of pink or blue toile fabric complete the beautiful look. This gorgeous piece of girls bedroom furniture transforms her bedroom into a place of delight.

The Vanity/Computer Desk features four drawers, drop-lid front keyboard, one stationary shelf and adjustable levelers. We also purchased the optional powder blue cushion and desk chair – a complete ensemble.

One other thing that Mommy and Daddy loved about this desk – FREE shipping!

Color 101: Utilize Color Basics for Your Kid’s Room

June 10, 2009 on 9:45 am | In Decorating Themes for Kids, Decorating Tips | No Comments

When you have the right colors in a kid’s room, suddenly you have transformed just a bedroom, nursery or playroom into a space that is fun and exciting. Color is what brings energy and life to a room and by choosing different combinations you will bring about a different emotion and “feel”. Some of you may choose to stay with a more conservative or safe palette while others are willing to try something a little bit more original. Whatever you decide is fine, because in the end color is something very personal – you have to be comfortable with your choices or you won’t be happy with the result.

Okay, so you are ready to decorate (or redecorate) the kids room…now what? Well, when talking about color and the right combinations, you will want to consider some important basics which I will highlight for you. Hopefully these pointers will help you decide on the right colors for your child’s room. Once you take these simple ideas of color and how to properly mix and match, you can transform any room and make it look really good.

So the basics…there are two groups of colors: warm colors (reds, oranges, yellows and beige) and cool colors (greens, blues, purples and grays). Warm colors are best used in living or gathering spaces because of the energy and warmth they create – living rooms, kitchens, dining rooms, playrooms. Cool colors are more soothing and relaxing, making them perfect for bedrooms, nurseries, and bathrooms. Next are the different color combinations: monochromatic (one hue/color), analogous (two hues/colors adjacent to each other on the color wheel: yellow, green), triadic (three hues/colors equidistant from each other on the color wheel: red, yellow, blue) and complementary (hues/colors located across each other on the color wheel: orange, blue) are the most common. Lastly, is how much of each color should be used in the room? To achieve a good balance, follow the 60-30-10 rule (read more details here) with 60% being dominant color usually on the walls, 30% secondary color typically with upholstery or bedding and 10% being the accent color that really gives the room a bit of pop. You can use these basic principles of working with color to really create a coherent and exciting space for your child and it leaves little room for error. Now to highlight some great color schemes for kid’s rooms with great décor to showcase them…

Pink & Green – we all love this sweet combination for a little girl’s room. Staying on the side of soft pink and sage you get a traditional look like with this Maribelle Crib Set by Little Bunny Blue:

maribelle-crib-linens1

If you want something a bit more modern then the brighter, bolder pinks and greens, like in this Lucy Bedding Set by Maddie Boo are for you:

lucy-bedding-set

Orange & Blue – this is such a great combination for a boy’s room. It is strong, bold and so visually appealing and I just can’t get enough of this Cole Bedding Set by Serena & Lily :

cole-bedding-set

This bright and cheery Loin and Birds Canvas by Oopsy Daisy will make your little one smile for sure:

lion-and-birds-canvas

Red, White & Blue – don’t just think of this as being overly patriotic…it is actually great for a boys room to have these colors mixing like in this sharp looking Mariner Rug by The Rug Market:

What about these preppy Plaid Wooden Drawer Knobs…Mix these with any theme for an interesting finishing touch:

Update Your Child’s Room for Summer

June 1, 2009 on 6:09 pm | In Decorating Tips | No Comments

Over the weekend, my husband and I were outside with the girls, trying to stay cool with a couple of beers when we acknowledged that summer is indeed upon us. The mornings are no longer cool and breezy and you can’t even think of stepping outside without sunscreen or you will be well on your way to a lobster-like hue. Somehow all of this seems to have happened overnight and now I am scrambling to lighten up the décor in my daughters’ room with fresh and summer-like pieces. Obviously I don’t want to completely redo their room…that will happen when we transfer our youngest out of the crib in a year or so, but it needs a little lift for now. I was on the hunt to find practical (can these things be used in a year when we rearrange?) and affordable (does this fit our budget?) pieces of décor that will bring a sense of summer to my girls’ bedroom.

There are an endless number of ways to quickly update your child’s room without completely redecorating. I chose to focus on three areas of their room that I thought would make the biggest impact: Bedding, Window Treatments, and Wall Décor. For the bedding, I already have solid pale pink crib sheets, so I just left those as is, but for our older daughter’s bed, I wanted to ditch the princess sheets (very cute, but a little heavy in color) and replace them with something predominantly white with just a hint of some pink in a subtle design. I also changed out the throw pillow (princess themed) and brought in one that again is mostly white with just a hint of pink in stenciled flowers here and there. The window treatments were definitely too heavy (fabric and color) for summertime and so I went with a lightweight fabric that gave the room much more open and airy feel. Lastly, I chose to update some of their wall art with a new canvas that really livens up their space. My decision to update their art was more of an excuse to purchase another great piece of kid’s art, but I still think it is a great design trick to alter the look of a room. A new piece of art immediately changes the amount of bare wall space so your eye travels around the room in a different pattern than it did before. Just think of when you moved into your first apartment and were haunted by the seemingly endless white walls all around…then you hung some art and next thing you know, it has become a completely different place.

So, after these small changes to my girls’ room – the sheet set and throw pillow, window treatments, and a new piece of art – what a difference! Their room is so fresh and it just feels like summer…truly amazing. If you think your child’s room needs some change, I would suggest looking around and pick three things that stand out the most…chances are those define the overall look and feel of the room. By updating those three things you will add a new twist without a complete overhaul. Here are some décor pieces from Rosenberry Rooms that I think are perfect for a simple summer update for your child’s room or nursery:

Melon Penny Dot Sheet Set…simple with just enough punch of color:

melon-penny-dot-sheet-set

Monogram Framed Painted Letters…these are so fresh and they have several color options you can choose:

monogram-framed-painted-letters

Classic Wooden Block Wall Clock…I can’t decide what is better – the color or style…love it:

wooden-block-wall-clock

Now that the girls’ room is done, I really need to tackle mine…
